Among the pioneers of the first conferences focused on the hydraulic structure safety were <strong>Krzysztof Fiedler<\/strong>, <strong>W\u0142odzis\u0142aw Hrabowski<\/strong> and <strong>Jerzy Kloze<\/strong>. These individuals were also members of the Organising Committee of the 1st National Technical Dam Control Conference, held over forty years ago, <time datetime=\"1981-11-04\">from 4th to 6th November 1981,<\/time> in Warsaw<\/p>\n      <p>The closure of the first five-year stage of the Government <em>Programme PR-7,<\/em> titled \"Shaping Water Resources in Poland\", provided a suitable opportunity for organising this event. The programme ran from <strong>1976 to 1980<\/strong> and was realised in six directions coordinated by major scientific and research institutions:<\/p>\n      <ul>\n        <li>Warsaw University of Technology;<\/li>\n        <li>Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW);<\/li>\n        <li>Institute of Environmental Planning;<\/li>\n        <li>Central Research and Development Centre Energopol (COBR Falenty);<\/li>\n        <li>Institute for Land Reclamation and Grassland Farming in Falenty.<\/li>\n      <\/ul>\n      <p>In the second stage of the programme from<strong>1981\u20131985<\/strong>, COBR Energopol was replaced by <em>Hydroprojekt Warsaw.<\/em>The <em>Silesian Institute in Opole<\/em>, which mainly focused on the Oder River basin, also joined in the programme. The fact that the <strong>IMGW<\/strong>was the main coordinator of all activities, and its director acted as the Head of PR-7 Programme, led to the idea of organising periodic TKZ conferences being initiated. Initially, the conferences were held as national events until 2005.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-621429d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"621429d\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0c8ed0f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0c8ed0f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-84af730 tkz-sekcja elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"84af730\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><span class=\"tkz-brow\">Conference History<\/span>Organisation and Committees<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6ba25fb e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"6ba25fb\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-938e9a6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"938e9a6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<br>\n<h3>The organisers of the first conference:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Polish Scientific and Technical Committee for Water Management under the Chief Technical Organisation (NOT);<\/li>\n<li>Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW);<\/li>\n<li>Polish Committee on the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Contributions by individuals and institutions<\/h3>\n<p>Significant academic contributions to the conference development, apart from the aforementioned initiators, were made by professors <strong>Jan Zieli\u0144ski<\/strong>, <strong>Zbigniew Grabowski<\/strong>, <strong>Kazimierz Thiel<\/strong>, <strong>Zbigniew Kledy\u0144ski<\/strong>, <strong>Jan Winter<\/strong>, who served for many years as chairs of the Scientific Committees of TKZ.<\/p>\n<p>The contributions of the directors of the <strong>Dam Safety Technical Control Centre (OTKZ)<\/strong>: <em>W\u0142adys\u0142aw Jankowski<\/em>, <em>Andrzej Wita<\/em>, <em>and Edmund Sieinski<\/em> \u2013 along with the work of other OTKZ staff, especially long-time conference secretary <em>Anna Kosik, should also be highlighted<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Since 2017<\/strong> , the conference is primarily organised by <em>Division of Hydro-Engineering and Hydraulics of Warsaw University of Technology<\/em>. Initially, the Organising Committee was chaired by <strong>Jan Winter<\/strong>, and as the Secretary - <strong>Agnieszka D\u0105bska<\/strong>. Initially, these were the post-conference materials, however, since <strong>2009,<\/strong> recurring monographs have also been published. At the same time, cooperation strengthened between the technical services responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety of hydraulic structures in the Czech Republic, Poland, and the Slovak Republic \u2013 especially between Vodn\u00ed d\u00edla \u2013 TBD, a.s. from Prague, the Dam Safety Technical Control Centre (OTKZ) of IMGW-PIB from Warsaw, and Vodohospod\u00e1rska v\u00fdstavba, Department of TBD from Bratislava. It soon became evident that there was a need to improve language communication and ensure precise translation of water engineering and hydraulic structure operation terms used in those countries.<\/p>\n      <p>The dictionary was published by the <em>Polish Chamber of Civil Engineers<\/em> and distributed to engineers from the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Poland, and Hungary, independently of the TKZ conferences.
